NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and The Pflaum-Sherman Family
Dear Friend,
The Pflaum-Sherman family will be hosting the Third Annual Golf Outing for the New York Brain Tumor Project on Monday, October 15, 2007. The outing will be at Glen Ridge Country Club in Glen Ridge, NJ. The day will consist of lunch, which will be served throughout the afternoon, golf in a scramble format, and a cocktail dinner reception including an open bar.
On October 9th, 2001 at age 32, my husband, Mark Sherman had a major car accident caused by blacking out from a grand-mal seizure. Amazingly, he was unharmed from the accident, but the cause of the seizure was a large brain tumor in his right lobe. He went through an 8 hour surgery, to find out the tumor was a Glioblastoma Multiforme, the most aggressive type, statistically resulting in life expectancy of about a year from diagnosis. After 6 weeks of intense radiation, months of steroids, and 3 years of chemo-therapy, Mark is alive and as of this upcoming outing a 6 year survivor and doing just fine.
Mark's miraculous survival is due in no small part to the world-class doctors at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center who began this research initiative in 2002. The mission of the New York Brain Tumor Project is to investigate promising new treatments for brain tumors. They strive to provide the highest standard of care, while also staying at the forefront of advances in medicine, to offer the best hope for fighting brain tumors. This is an amazing project and by supporting it we look to provide to others hope that miracles like Mark's can happen.
Last year we raised over $20,000 for this project through this outing and we would hope to reach a goal of $30,000 this year. We cannot do this without your help and participation. All proceeds from the event will go entirely to the New York Brain Tumor Project. This event is not only a great golf event, but a networking venue as well. The attached form outlines the levels of sponsorship for the event and how you can help support it.
Please help us to reach our goal and support this important cause. If you have any questions or need any further information about the New York Brain Tumor Project or the outing itself, please contact Wendy Pflaum at (551) 998-7050 or sherman8@optonline.net.
Thank you in advance for your help and support.
Sincerely,
Wendy Pflaum-Sherman
